Among the not-really-shocking observations: Reviewers who get freebies and/or pay for their commentary from vendors tend to, ah, overpromise a bit. Also, they may not have actually read the book/been to the restaurant/used that stroller to scale Everest.
More fun facts: Cornell University researchers developed an algorithm to detect "deceptive opinion spam" (great term, Cornell!). Overusing "very," "really" and the first person are tipoffs to fabricated reviews, the researchers said.
